BLACK & WHITE WINTER

ALL COLLAGE RENDERING

For this tutorial, we'll be focusing on basic collage techniques, as well as lighting adjustment. I chose to keep the image in black and white so you can analyse all the elements without having to worry about color composition.

1 | BASE IMAGE

No base image was needed for this rendering. Only a few guide lines drawn in Photoshop. Watch the full video to see how to go from nothing to a full rendered image!

A | BASE COMPOSITION & TEXTURE

What gives this view scale and a strong perspective is the pattern in the ceiling. Use the transform tool in Photoshop to get the perspective right.

B | BACKGROUND

A good background and landscape will give depth to your image. Composing your darks and lights is what will make an image successful. The dark areas in the mountais, combined with the dark trees and the shaded foreground will keep your eyes moving around this composition.

C | ENTOURAGE

People always add scale to your images. Adding the girl in the white coat to the left of the image helps balance the big white area in the mountain to the right side.

Very important: don't forget to add shadow to your entourage. This will help ground the objects. Be aware of the direction of the light so the shadow can relate.

D | REFLECTIONS

Reflections help bring all the elements of your rendering together and adds a lot more texture to the view. Watch the full video to see how to create them!

E | LIGHTING ADJUSTMENT

Since there was no base rendering with the correct lighting, this is your opportunity to fix the lighting, the levels, contrast, etc. Have fun!
